ACV Congratulates Ann Thompson on Retirement

Friends of Ann Thompson came from near and far to a reception to celebrate her retirement. She was pleasantly surprised by a group of friends who traveled from various locations like Jacksonville, Fla., and North Carolina to celebrate with her. No matter how far they traveled, everyone enjoyed finger foods, fellowship and laughter with Ann.

Ann has been an employee of Advent Christian Village since October of 2006, serving as the Vice President of Member Services.

President Craig Carter and Vice President Jim Schenck gave their remarks and well wishes to Ann during her celebratory reception. She received a beautiful plant and gift certificate to start the butterfly garden she has always wanted.

“I will always cherish the friendships I’ve made among staff and members,” said Ann. “It’s been a unique opportunity to serve at a retirement community that you plan to retire in.”

Watching the Village transform and grow over time has been one of the many highlights for Ann. She admired the diversity and serving people of all backgrounds. Ann continued to express how love and support are shown throughout ACV daily, but especially during the hard times.

“The community comes together to help one another,” she said. “And I think that’s really special.”

One of Ann’s favorite memories while working at ACV is the time she escorted seven World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., with the Honor Flight Network non-profit organization. This organization honors American veterans for all their sacrifices.

“It was a wonderful experience to get to know them, hear their stories and see their reactions to what all they saw in D.C.,” Ann said.

From seasonal celebrations to float building, Ann enjoyed helping the members of ACV experience things they have never done before, such as riding in a parade. Ann has loved working with people and providing opportunities for the members to participate in activities.

Ann’s travel plans after retirement include a bus trip to Washington, D.C., going a on a mission trip to Cuba and joining a group of friends on a Mediterranean cruise, where they will spend some additional time in Barcelona and Rome.

Ann is also looking forward to spending time with her 3 grandchildren, doing some gardening and volunteering with her church and community while retired.

While we will miss Ann in the office, she will continue to live at ACV. We are thankful for Ann’s commitment and compassionate spirit she has shared with ACV and its members. We wish you well, Ann!
