ACV Awards Annual Scholarships From A Distance

Each year high school seniors, their parents, community members, and Advent Christian Village employees gather for the presentation of the Marvin E. Jones Memorial and Forward Fund Scholarship Banquet. This time is set aside to recognize the scholarship recipients for their outstanding achievements and present their scholarships. This year, however, we were unable to honor our scholarship winners in person but this does not diminish the significance of their accomplishments.

The benefactors who established the scholarship trusts, making the annual scholarship awards possible include the late Marvin E. Jones, a respected international business executive, and the late Dr. and Mrs. Al Lawton who established the Forward Fund at Advent Christian Village in order to assist employees of ACV and their children in continuing education.

Marvin E. Jones scholarship finalists are awarded a one-time $1,000 scholarship. These graduates include Cynthia Cruz, Stephanie Duarte, and Tyree Taylor.

Marvin E. Jones Runners-Up receive a $1,500 scholarship award for two consecutive years to equal a $3,000 award. These winners include Merlin Leal, Jessica Martin, and Rutvi Shukla.

The four-year scholarship goes to an outstanding all-around student from Suwannee High School. The 2020 Marvin E. Jones scholarship winner is Brianna Mays (pictured). She will attend the University of North Florida this fall. Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Mays plans to attend a veterinary program and eventually to open an office in Live Oak.

The Forward Fund scholarship awards went to Lindsay Carter, Marsha Adams, Ginger Calhoun, Catlin Deeson, Jordan Harmon, Craig Hodges, Sheterica Thomas, and Raymond Woodis.

We are disappointed that we were unable to celebrate this occasion at our annual scholarship banquet at Advent Christian Village, but that does not diminish the achievements of these outstanding students. Regardless of the circumstances, we congratulate each of the winners for their accomplishments. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for their futures.
