Advent Christian Village is excited to announce that One Voice Youth Choir, a touring choir of First Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, has added Dowling Park as one of its stops on their Mission Tour 2015 to Miami, Florida. The choir will arrive Friday evening, June 5, to perform a 7:00 concert at The Village Church.
One Voice, a choir of high schoolers from over 12 high schools in Alabama, is just one of many ministries of Montgomery’s First Baptist. A strong commitment is necessary to participate in the group. Practices and singing obligations are mandatory as is attendance at Sunday School, worship services and Powerhouse, their student ministry. It’s clear that not only is being a member of the choir a privilege, it is also a worthwhile effort. The choir is comprised of approximately 100 ninth- through 12th-grade students.
One Voice has been touring each year for over 50 years. In recent years, the choir has been to Canada; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Denver and New York City. The choir meets each Sunday afternoon throughout the school year and leads regularly in Sunday evening worship and other special events. This year’s tour to Miami, Florida, will give the students and adult leaders the opportunity to share Christ through music in a variety of places. In the past, they’ve sung at churches, in auditoriums, at prisons, and even on the field before a New York Mets baseball game. Besides singing, the group also ministers at homeless shelters and soup kitchens. They also spend time just being with people and ministering to them through conversation. They will be “singing, sharing, serving and shining for Christ!”
This Summer’s tour begins June 5 and will end with a homecoming concert back in Alabama on June 14. The ten days are sure to be full of fun spiritual growth as the group learns to depend on each other and on God for support, friendship and love.
