Advent Christian Village at Dowling Park (ACV) has been enjoying a friendly partnership with the Gainesville Pops for the past few years. The “GPops” is a performing ensemble modeled after the Boston Pops Orchestra. Their first performance in Dowling Park took place when they delighted the audience with an armed forces salute in June 2016. ACV’s concerts coordinator, Dick Grillo, booked the wind ensemble right away for a holiday concert. Their next ACV concert will take place at the end of this month on the 26th.
The GPops features a variety of music, including light classical, Broadway show tunes, Hollywood soundtracks, popular hits, and jazz standards. The ensemble includes both students and professionals from the Gainesville, Florida, area.
The May 26 concert, an armed forces salute, will feature a variety of music to “honor those men and women who serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces.” The past two patriotic concerts included the theme from the major motion picture Gettysburg; an arrangement of “Eternal Father, Strong to Save”; the John Philip Sousa march “Hands Across the Sea”; “Rhapsody for Euphonium and Concert Band” featuring soloist Zachary Sullivan; the percussion-focused “The Typewriter”; and — of course — an arrangement of the five armed forces melodies.
You are cordially encouraged to attend what is sure to be a delightful concert.
Join us at 3:00 on Saturday, May 26, in The Village Church. There is no charge to attend, but a $5 donation per adult is suggested.
