We are pleased to announce that on Sunday, June 11, a dedication ceremony and a ribbon cutting will be held at Advent Christian Village (ACV). At 2:00 p.m., in The Village Church, ACV will dedicate Phase II of Taylor Commons, its newest neighborhood; the Marion Polk Ceramics Shop; and the Shirley J. Brooks Archive Wing, which is part of the Jo Kennon Public Library. At 3:00 p.m., Suwannee County will celebrate the grand opening of the Kennon Library with a ribbon cutting on site. The public is invited to these events.
Through the efforts of county officials, Village administration and many concerned citizens, the public library in Dowling Park has become a reality. It’s now time to open the doors to the public.
The attached Shirley J. Brooks Archive Wing will house the Advent Christian Village Archives — over 100 years of ACV history told through photographs, articles and artifacts. The mini museum and research center will be available for those wishing to learn more about ACV’s past, present and future; Dowling Park; and beyond.
The Marion Polk Ceramics Shop is also celebrating its opening this weekend. The shop is located on “crafting circle” near the center of campus, joining Watkins Hobby Shop, housing the woodworking and lapidary shops, and the Chriss Building, an art studio. The new ceramics studio replaces a much smaller space and will provide a suitable setting for more participants.
While construction on Phase II of Taylor Commons is still underway, the final building is steadily moving toward its finish. The three new buildings, named in memory of Minnie Maude Adams, the Southlake Advent Christian Church, and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Kamensky, complete Taylor Commons and add another 18 modern, single-story townhomes to the beautiful neighborhood.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, there will be an open house of the library, archive wing and ceramics shop. Refreshments will also be served.
Advent Christian Village is deeply grateful for all those who contributed to make these projects a reality.
