The Suwanee County Historic Commission dedicates itself to preserving artifacts and history about the local area. Several events are offered to learn more about Live Oak, including Lunch & Learns every second Thursday of each month, narratives from the oldest residents, and walking tours. The main building is only open on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The Mystic Jungle Educational Facility is a nonprofit organization that seeks to educate about the conservation of exotic creatures and their importance to the natural ecosystem. The organization hosts tours on Saturdays for a donation of $10.
The Gateway Art Gallery showcases local Northern Florida artists. Its primary goal is to reveal the area as a hub for artists and to promote the visual arts. Many forms of art are shown, including painting, woodcarving, pottery, and more. Not only can you see galleries of artists, but you can also sign up for art courses for you and your family.
Heading outside and enjoying the day as a family is a great option for those living in Live Oak. Here are a couple of options available to you and yours.
If music and the great outdoors sounds like the perfect combination, check out the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Located just north of Live Oak, this is a pleasant mix of both a music ground and a campsite. It hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, and also offers live weekly music in the Music Hall and an amphitheater for outdoor festivals. They also offer more than 600 campsites, cabin rentals, and private parties. Be sure to reserve your seats or campsite early!
For the golfers in the family, try the Suwanee Country Club. This 9-hole course is semi-private but is open to the public. It features two different sets of tees for different levels of skill. Other features include golf carts, putting greens, and a driving range.
